Laser Shop Essentials: The Basics Every Laser User Needs in Their Workspace
Every year I tell myself I’m finally going to sit down and make a blog about the tools and supplies I use every single day in my laser shop… and every year I get busy and it never happens. But not this year!
I’ve been going through my Amazon storefront and realized just how many helpful categories I’ve created over time — from must-have laser supplies to optics to laser blanks and so much more. If you visit the main page, you’ll see everything organized in a way that makes it super easy to shop based on what you need:

But for this blog post, I wanted to do something a little different. I’m going to highlight a handful of the items that are truly at the top of my must-have list — the things I always keep stocked because they make running my laser business smoother, faster, and way more enjoyable. I’m also including a few seasonal Christmas blanks that are relevant to the products I’m currently making and that always perform well this time of year.
So feel free to browse the full storefront, or read along here to see the specific essentials I think every laser maker should have in their workspace.

Thermal Printer for Shipping Labels + Stickers
➡️ https://amzn.to/48vyfbZ
If you’re still printing labels on paper and taping them down… friend, let me upgrade you. A thermal printer is one of those things you buy once and then wonder how on earth you ever lived without it. No ink. No toner. No smudging. Just clean, crisp, fast printing.
Because it prints tiny stickers too, it’s perfect for quick notes or reminders on products. At my Painted Tree boutique, I’m constantly printing little stickers like “This item is magnetic,” “Display Only,” or “Fragile.” They make everything look more intentional and professional.

Pot Organizer for Storing Acrylic Sheets
➡️ https://amzn.to/4ofhs1M
This one is new for me… but omg, my acrylic storage area was getting out of hand and I needed a solution stat. Pot organizers ended up being the perfect fix. They keep your acrylic upright so it doesn’t warp or get scratched, and suddenly you can actually see what colors you have instead of digging through a leaning tower of plastic.
Your shelves instantly look cleaner and more intentional — like you meant to be that organized the whole time.
Fire Blanket (Non-Negotiable)
If you own a laser, you need a fire blanket. Period. It’s compact, fast to deploy, and designed for the exact flare-ups lasers can produce. Hang it next to your machine — never across the room.
Plastic Razor Blades for Removing Masking
➡️ https://a.co/d/an6LMgH
If you’ve ever scratched acrylic trying to remove masking… welcome to your new best friend. These plastic razors glide right under the tape without damaging your material. I use them all. The. Time.
Gorilla Tape (My Masking Tape Secret Weapon)
Sometimes masking tape just refuses to come off — especially after an engrave. Gorilla Tape is the only tape I’ve found that lifts it instantly. Just tap a small piece onto the stubborn area and peel.
And trust me: do not waste your money on cheaper knockoffs. I’ve tried them all. Gorilla Tape is the only one that actually grips and removes masking cleanly.

Calipers for Accurate Measuring
➡️ https://amzn.to/48eNMvK
If you make slotted designs, jigs, interlocking pieces, tumblers, earrings… anything requiring precision… you need calipers. They save you from so many fit-test headaches.
Electric Cardboard Cutter
➡️ https://a.co/d/5OvkmJ2
One of those tools you don’t realize you need until you use it. Cutting down boxes becomes effortless — especially when shipping big signs or prepping boutique inventory.
Stainless Steel Mesh Screening (for Catching Tiny Pieces)
If you’ve ever lost the dot of an “i” or any small cutout down the honeycomb, this is your fix. Place the mesh under your material to catch tiny pieces before they fall through.
Paper Tape Dispenser for 3M, Dualtite, & Masking Rolls
➡️ https://a.co/d/5OvkmJ2
Keeps your adhesives neat, upright, and ready to grab. It’s a little thing… but such a time-saver.
Large Monitor (A Laser User’s Best Friend)
No more squinting at a tiny laptop screen. This monitor is sleek, white, bright, and easy on the eyes. It’s also a smart monitor — so when I bring my kids to the shop, they can throw on a show while I work.
And for you? Your LightBurn workspace suddenly feels huge.

Small Level (Yes, You Need One)
Whether you’re engraving tumblers or checking your laser bed, a small level is shockingly useful. One of those tools you end up reaching for constantly.
Silicone Toothbrush Holders (My Cord-Organization Hack)
These stick anywhere and keep all your cords — power cords, USB cables, chargers — organized and accessible. A tiny upgrade that keeps your workspace tidy.
Super Strong Neodymium Magnets
➡️ https://a.co/d/5OvkmJ2
I use these all the time to hold down warped wood, keep acrylic flat, or raise material slightly to reduce flashback.
TMWAL Tip: Cover the magnets with duct tape so they’re easier to lift off your laser bed and won’t scratch your material.
Metal Frame Supports (Effortless Stand-Up Sign Bases)
If you’re tired of messing with slots, kerf adjustments, or wobbly stands just to make a sign upright… these frames are the easiest solution ever. Just slide your sign in and you’re done. No redesigning, no balancing act.
They’re sturdy, minimal, and perfect for booths, boutiques, craft fairs, or product photos.

These are tried-and-true blanks I personally reach for in my business.
And at the end, I’m sharing the one content tool I recommend to every budding entrepreneur or influencer because it has genuinely changed my life.

Baby Tooth Keepsake Box
➡️ https://amzn.to/3XaEdJ9
These are adorable little add-ons for parents and grandparents. They engrave beautifully and sell well year-round, but especially during the gift-giving season.
Best Ever Crafts Acrylic Paint Pens (Fine Tip for Tiny Details)
These acrylic paint pens have become one of my daily shop staples. The fine-tip side is the star of the show — it lets me hand-paint even the tiniest details with so much control. If you make earrings, small ornaments, detailed lettering, or any project where a regular brush feels too bulky, you are going to fall in love with these.
The colors go on smooth, they dry beautifully, and the finish looks clean and professional every time. For anyone doing intricate engraving or tiny accent work, these pens are a total game changer.
